The recent episode of Delhi Smog is very unfortunate and something should be done about it. The Delhi air quality is like smoking 50 cigarettes in a day, which can be very harmful for the human body. Particulate matter suspended in the air has exceeded hazardous levels. I always liked Delhi since it is so green and full of trees. That is a sight to behold. I miss this aspect in Bombay, which does not have a lot of green space. During my previous visit to Bareilly, I actually had a wonderful time travelling through the country side. I enjoyed the entire journey as I could see farmers and greenery and nature, all of which appeal to me a lot. It was really beautiful and gave me a lot of peace of mind. But recent events show that Delhi has a huge air pollution problem.
The situation has forced the government to take several emergency measures. They have taken other kinds of initiatives as well. It was quite necessary. In fact, the government should carry out the cracker ban not only in Delhi but all across India. My friends have told me that the odd even scheme worked to some measure in Delhi the previous time. However, it is also true that people started buying more vehicles and cars. I really do not know if that was the right approach or whether it was the right solution, but it somehow seemed to work.
“Every step counts in preventing pollution” : Claudia Ciesla
I also feel that every step counts. If all citizens come together, it can go a long way in getting rid of such environmental problems. Someone could prevent water wastage; another person could prevent trash from getting littered. All of us, in our own ways, can contribute to the well being of the planet Earth. Each one of us could contribute to the cause of environment through various different initiatives. Cumulatively, all the small steps put together have the potential to go a long way in ensuring the health of the environment.
“I am against firecrackers”
I celebrated Diwali in Bombay with my friends. I can say from first hand experience that air pollution was much lesser this time. Many other people took civic initiatives and came together in order to promote the entire concept of Green Diwali, which was very noble. The noise as well as the air pollution due to firecrackers was less than before. Things would change step by step. If all of us just take some minutes out of our time and work for the environment and nature, then that would be time well spent. We basically need to change our entire mentality. All of us make mistakes; however, if all of us come together, then the impact could be substantial.
“I am very close to nature”: Claudia Ciesla
I am pretty close to nature since I grew up in Poland. We had our bungalow, a backyard that was full of flowers and trees. When I was a child, I used to spend my afternoons outside, particularly in the lap of nature. In fact, a person can appreciate beautiful things in life only when he or she is close to nature.
However, I also understand that some times wrong decisions can lead to degradation in the environment around us. Forests are cut, leading to global warming and climate change. I clearly remember watching the movie Before the Flood which was made by Actor Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie based on climate change and other environmental factors was amazing to watch. I was so impressed by the movie that I asked a lot of people on social media to go and watch the movie.
Nature is resilient, it will heal on its own: Claudia
I feel that not all is yet lost. Nature is beautiful as well as resilient. If people stop harming it, then the planet Earth can take care of itself and there are natural mechanisms through which environment can rejuvenate, rebuild, as well as heal. Global warming and pollution can be prevented. I am very sure that the people can be so motivated that they can take initiatives to serve our mother Earth.
I love to participate in tree planting drives. I also like to support these causes as they are very important and that there is a need to spread awareness about them. I love to travel as much as I can. I also like being with nature. I feel really connected.
Through this medium, I would like to ask people to care for the environment and nature. I would also ask them to develop a real love for nature. Nature is a great stress buster. People can use it to relax. In fact, no matter what my state of mind is, environment as well as nature always have a positive and constructive impact on me.
