Aditi Rao Hydari, who captivated audiences with her grace and powerful performance as Bibbojaan in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, recently made a surprising revelation. In a vlog with filmmaker Farah Khan, the actress confessed that despite the overwhelming praise for her portrayal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, she hasn’t received the flood of offers she expected.
During their candid conversation, Farah mentioned Aditi’s earlier statement in a roundtable discussion, where she expressed hope that Heeramandi would open doors for her. Aditi humorously responded, “Nothing, not even sabzimandi after Heeramandi. Because after Heeramandi, the way everyone went on and on… So I thought after the show there will be bauchhar of interesting stuff…but then cut to…I am like what’s going on?” highlighting the stark contrast between the praise she received and the lack of new opportunities. Farah, known for her wit, jokingly quipped, “That’s why you got married?” referencing Aditi’s recent marriage to actor Siddharth.
Heeramandi and Aditi’s Impact
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, released on Netflix, explores the lives of courtesans during India’s struggle for independence. Aditi’s portrayal of Bibbojaan, a complex and resilient character, won her immense appreciation. Her mesmerizing ‘swan walk’ even became a social media sensation.
With her ethereal beauty and classical poise, Aditi has always been a standout performer. She has delivered notable performances in films like Padmaavat, Sufiyum Sujatayum, and Ajeeb Daastaans. Despite her critically acclaimed work, she has often been underutilized in mainstream Bollywood.
Her revelation about the lack of offers post-Heeramandi reflects the unpredictable nature of the film industry, where critical success doesn’t always translate into more projects. However, fans remain hopeful that filmmakers will soon recognize her talent and offer her roles that match her caliber. Until then, Aditi continues to charm audiences with her elegance, humor, and honesty.
