R. Madhavan, known for his versatility on screen, is also known for being deeply thoughtful off it. While promoting De De Pyaar De 2, the actor opened up about the evolving dynamics of parenting and why he had to change the way he raises his son. “Things I grew up with which were totally acceptable…I can’t do that with my son anymore,” he shared, reflecting on how modern children see the world differently and how parents must adapt to stay connected.
A Fresh Take on Modern Relationships
De De Pyaar De 2 arrives in theatres six years after the first installment, reuniting Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh while bringing Madhavan into the sequel in a significant new role. In a candid chat with IMDb, Devgn and Madhavan discussed how the film explores changing generational perspectives, evolving social acceptance, and the emotional conflicts that come with relationships today.
Madhavan pointed out that the story would have once been considered unconventional. “At a time when relationships like this were not common, they were looked down upon,” he said. “Today, the differences don’t make a difference, but for an old timer, it’s difficult to accept.”
Perfect On-Screen Chemistry
Devgn and Madhavan, who share mutual admiration, believe their real-life comfort translates powerfully on screen. Devgn praised Madhavan, saying, “Working with Maddy feels effortless, we’re more like friends…The kind of rapport we share always makes a scene better because there’s a tuning, an understanding.”
Madhavan returned the appreciation, calling Devgn’s commitment inspiring. He recalled a moment where Devgn didn’t utter a word in a dramatic scene yet delivered immense impact. “For me, that was like going to university,” he said.
Parenting in a New Age
Madhavan’s most personal revelation came when discussing how modern fatherhood requires reinvention. The values and parenting approach he was raised with no longer apply in the same way. “I have to redefine the rules for myself as a father to have the same amount of impact,” he explained, admitting that times have changed faster than many parents expected.
The film, he shared, offers emotional and practical insight into what families today may face. “God forbid, or god willing, you may see a situation like this in your family…and we’ve got a solution for it,” he said, noting that the narrative explores healthy options for resolution.
Youth and Their Right to Choose
Ajay Devgn summed up the core conflict of the story. “In today’s times, the youth thinks they have the right to make their own choices. You can’t deny that,” he said, adding that both generations bring valid perspectives—and that is what makes the film’s emotional clash engaging and real.
