Mumbai witnessed a unique celebration of storytelling and technology as MAMI Select recently screened four short films shot entirely on iPhone, bringing together emerging filmmakers, acclaimed mentors, and some of the biggest names from the entertainment industry under one roof. The gala screening turned into a star-studded affair with celebrities including Sonam Bajwa, Mrunal Thakur, Zoya Akhtar and several others coming together to celebrate the future of independent cinema.

The initiative by MAMI Select showcased four distinct voices from across India, each mentored by some of the country’s most respected filmmakers. Ritesh Sharma presented She Sells Seashells, a Hindi short film mentored by Sriram Raghavan. Robin Joy’s Malayalam film Paradise Fall was guided by Geetu Mohandas, while Dhritishree Sarkar’s Bengali film Kathar Katha – The Tale of Katha was mentored by Dibakar Banerjee. Shreela Agarwal showcased her Marathi short film 11:11 under the mentorship of Chaitanya Tamhane.

The event saw an impressive turnout from the film and entertainment fraternity including Kabir Khan, Mini Mathur, Neelam Kothari, Samir Soni, Neha Dhupia, Angad Bedi, Mouni Roy, Soha Ali Khan, Ahsaas Channa, Barkha Singh and many more.

What stood out through the evening was the unanimous appreciation for the quality and cinematic scale achieved through iPhone filmmaking. Several attendees spoke about how accessible technology is reshaping storytelling and empowering emerging creators to bring compelling narratives to life without conventional barriers.

With MAMI Select offering a powerful platform to independent voices, the evening proved that impactful cinema is no longer limited by scale or equipment, only by imagination.
