For an actor stepping into the world of mainstream cinema, the first film is never just a project—it’s a defining moment. For Vikramm Bhambri, that moment arrived with Dhurandhar, where he shares screen space with some of the industry’s biggest names. Playing Shakeel Commando in Aditya Dhar’s action spectacle, Vikramm not only found his footing as an actor but also discovered camaraderie, mentorship, and memories that he says will stay with him for life.

Recalling how he landed the role, Vikramm shared, “Like any newcomer goes through the audition process, I too auditioned in May 2024. I got on board with the project later in October 2024. I am playing Shakeel Commando, one of the henchmen of the Rehman Dakait group. He has a typical tall aesthetic and a rugged ‘modern nomad’ personality—mostly silent, but his actions speak louder than his words. In Part 1, Donga, Siyahi, and Baba Ladla died, so the rest of the gang members who are still alive will be seen in Part 2.”

While stepping onto a big set can be intimidating, Vikramm found an unexpected sense of ease, especially while working with Ranveer Singh. Sharing his first interaction, he said, “On my first day of the shoot, I was standing with Ranveer Singh (addressed as RS on the set). It was an overwhelming yet anxious situation for me, filled with lots of ‘ifs’, ‘buts’, and ‘hows’—basically all sorts of questions. But the very next moment, he called me ‘VIKRAMM SIR,’ and I was totally blown away by his gesture. From that moment onwards, for me, he became ‘Ranveer bhai’. Throughout the shoot, Ranveer bhai has been very inspiring. He has been like a best buddy, especially with all the gang members, also because the script demanded that bond. Ranveer bhai is very meticulous, not only in his craft but also in how he builds camaraderie with people around him. He is full of energy, a happy, jolly human being who motivates and cheers others. He is a true gentleman and a very humble human being. And that is the biggest lesson I’ll always remember throughout my career.”

As his debut Hindi film, Dhurandhar holds a deeply personal significance for Vikramm. Every moment on set, he says, felt larger than life. “For me, every moment on the set is kind of recorded in my mind. This being my first step into the Bollywood industry and standing next to the biggest stalwarts of Bollywood, it’s been quite an overwhelming experience for me.”

Amidst the intensity of shooting, there were also moments of unexpected humour—particularly during the Leh schedule. Sharing a candid anecdote, he added, “However, there is one funny incident about me. We were supposed to fly to Leh for the shoot. Danish (Uzair), Rajat (Mukka), Naveen (Donga), and I are very close-knit buddies. So we had discussed taking a Diamox tablet a day prior to flying to help our bodies and respiratory systems acclimatize to the high altitude of the mountains. We used to get on calls and discuss it—I was confident I would still be able to manage without Diamox because I’m a regular gym-goer and thought my cardio system would be better than Rajat’s. Basically, I was more worried about how Rajat would manage there, as he is prone to motion sickness and was quite scared about the high altitude. Anyway, we landed in Leh (without consuming Diamox), and by the very second day, my SpO2 dropped below 80, and I had to be put on oxygen cylinders. On the other hand, Rajat was fit and fine—and recording me!”

From nerves and admiration to laughter and life lessons, Vikramm Bhambri’s journey on Dhurandhar reflects the essence of a debut that is as transformative as it is unforgettable.

Dhurandhar is Vikramm’s debut Hindi film, and for him, every moment on set was memorable. He added, “For me, every moment on the set is kind of recorded in my mind.
