In an industry where trends shift overnight, even established voices can find themselves navigating unexpected turns. Babul Supriyo recently opened up about a phase in his career post Hum Tum, reflecting on how changing musical landscapes impacted his journey.
At one point, the singer was synonymous with romantic tracks. Recalling that phase, he shared, “I was getting a lot of romantic songs,” highlighting how consistent his presence once was. However, as Bollywood music began evolving, so did its soundscape. With newer styles gaining popularity, especially during the rise of Himesh Reshammiya, the demand for certain voices and genres started to shift, and opportunities gradually became fewer.
Addressing a long-standing perception about his career trajectory, Babul spoke with honesty and acceptance. “I agree that I did not get my due,” he admitted, acknowledging that multiple factors contributed to this slowdown. While he refrained from detailing everything, he did allude to the complexities of the industry, adding, “There’s some bad politics too, but I won’t talk about it.”
Despite the challenges, the singer maintains a balanced perspective. Rather than focusing solely on setbacks, he recognises the opportunities the industry has provided him over the years. “If the industry hadn’t given me anything, I wouldn’t have been given this platform to talk about what went wrong,” he said, underlining his gratitude even amid criticism.
What stands out in his reflection is the sense of acceptance that comes with experience. Summing up his journey, Babul added, “It happens with everyone,” reinforcing the idea that highs and lows are an inevitable part of an artist’s life.
Today, he looks back at that phase not with regret, but with clarity, understanding that evolution, both personal and professional, often comes through such moments. His candid take offers a reminder that in the ever-changing world of entertainment, resilience remains just as important as talent.
