Kesari Chapter 2 starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday had a modest opening on Friday, collecting ₹7.84 crore, but the film saw significant growth over the weekend. A noticeable jump on Saturday with ₹10.08 crore, followed by an even better performance on Sunday at ₹11.70 crore, has boosted its overall weekend total to a respectable ₹29.62 crore. This upward trend, especially after a slow start despite the Good Friday holiday, has put the film back in the race.
The film performed best in metro cities and premium screens, with Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Pune emerging as top contributors. However, Sunday brought a strong turnaround across several other key centres like Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bhopal, and Chandigarh, reflecting positive word-of-mouth and growing interest.
All eyes are now on the all-important Monday collection, which will determine the film’s long-term prospects. Sustaining the momentum through the weekdays is crucial for Kesari Chapter 2 to secure a strong first-week total. Fortunately for the film, the absence of any major releases until Raid 2 and The Bhootnii hit cinemas on Thursday, 1 May, gives it a clean window to capitalize on.
If the film maintains its pace, it could emerge as a solid mid-range success, especially in light of its slow start. The makers will be hoping for steady footfall and strong retention at the box office through the week.
Meanwhile, Chhaava continues its historic run at the box office. The film has stormed past the ₹600 crore mark, becoming the third Hindi film after Pushpa 2 and Stree 2 to achieve this feat. With its massive earnings, Chhaava has officially earned the title of “ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER.”
