The gritty, power-packed world of Mirzapur is all set to get bigger and louder. After three wildly successful seasons that redefined crime storytelling on OTT, the makers have officially announced Mirzapur – The Movie, taking the beloved franchise from the digital space to the big screen. The announcement, made at a recent Prime Video event, has already sparked excitement among fans who have been eagerly waiting to see their favourite characters return.
Leading the charge is Ali Fazal, who reprises his iconic role as Guddu Pandit. Sharing his excitement, he said, “Bahut mazaa ayega. It’s going to be a lot of fun. We have already shot it. We had a lot of fun. This is the first time this has happened. Sorry, it has been a bit unnerving. But you all have been waiting for a long time. It’s a game. It’s better if they say it themselves. Because both of them are legends. And now everyone is together. It’s going to be fun.”
For Pankaj Tripathi, who immortalised the menacing Kaleen Bhaiya, the transition from a hit series to a feature film is both significant and emotional. Reflecting on the journey, he shared, “It means a lot to me. It means a lot to us. It means a lot to Hindustan to transform a series into a big screen. So it means a lot to all of us. This has been truly, actually path-breaking in every respect.”
Speaking about the scale and ambition of the film, he added, “Hello everyone, good evening. I just feel that I am really glad that we are doing this. And I think more than anything, Mirzapur is the result of the story, the scale is going to justify its presence on the big screen. And like you said, it’s the first of its kind. We have all waited with a bated breath. How will it go? How will people like it? But I think whatever we have talked about, we have told people. We have been very, very positive. They are very excited that Hindustan has come on the big screen.”
The film will see familiar faces like Rasika Duggal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Sharad Shukla reprising their roles, promising a return to the intense, unpredictable world fans love. Slated for release towards the end of the year, Mirzapur – The Movie is poised to be a landmark moment in Indian entertainment, bridging the gap between streaming success and cinematic spectacle.
