Britannia & Company Restaurant, Ballard Estate, Bombay: Almost 95 years ago, in 1923, Rashid Kohinoor, like a few other Zoroastrian immigrants, decided to try his luck in restaurant business setting up this now famous restaurant, which could be considered Mumbai’s Most Popular Parsi Joint, in the heart of the city’s business district of Ballard Estate in the Fort area. The restaurant has been up and running since the year 1923 and it is one of Mumbai’s Most Popular Parsi Joint. The Britannia & Company Restaurant is now run and owned by Boman Kohinoor, who is a charming old fellow with a genial nature. The Britannia & Company Restaurant was opened for British officers stationed in the Fort area during the Imperial days and served only continental food. He recalls that nothing has changed much in his restaurant and it very much retains the old world charm of those days, including the imported Bentwood furniture from Poland during the restaurant’s infancy. Nowadays, Boman’s son Afshin looks after the operations and management of Mumbai’s Most Popular Parsi Joint, but Boman Kohinoor still drops in everyday to happily entertain his customers by enthralling them with captivating tales from the colorful past of the Britannia & Company Restaurant and of the city.
